Day 1

Danushka drove us to our B and B where we left our belongings and dropped
us off in Anchorage center near Railroad Depot. The four of us walked

Day 2

Day 2. We started at 9 am at Levi's garage where we rented Ford Contour
from Mike Levi (Israeli Wanderer) who called Alaska's Jewish Community "frozenchosen". After we

Homer

In Homer (cute bed and breakfast where Kathy made 4 rhubarb pies to greet
us) we ate kotletki, went for a walk to see a huge eagle nest with an
eagle, drove thru the spit (not sure why it is called that way and why it
is so beloved) and went to bed. Before the shades went down - beautiful

Day 3

Day 3. We drove from Homer to Seward stopping first to see a young moose
and then at the Resurrection tral (short walk because of mosquitoe and more
mushroom picking - big success! About 2 kilo!).

Seward

We arrived in Seward at about 3 and settled at Quonset Hut - very comfortable cabin. We explored
Seward: marina where there was a huge scale to weigh salmon, halibut, cod,
snapper - some more than 160 pounds!; fish cleaning stands (we decided to
come next day to ask for leftover salmon for...

Exit glacier

...Exit Glacier to find out what time they have ranger guided tours; Safeway to get food and wine.
Dinner: mushroom soup and fried mushrooms with potato and Baron Herzog wine and qinoa-great!

Day 4

Exit Glacier - hiking, hiking and more hiking! Harding ice trail -
we made about a quarter of it, pretty strenuous! On the way back - bought
fresh salmon and freshly smoked salmon and after dinner went to the marina
again (and did get free salmon - a lot!).

Day 5

Artic sealife center - very interesting presentations about salmon
and aleutans. A lot (and very cute) sea lions, seals, horned and tafted
puffins and other birds, various fish etc.. At 3 we went on Kenai Fjords
boat tour - 6 hours of Reurrection Bay and Golf of Alaska. We saw a lot of
whales, sea...

Day 6

We left Seward and drove to Whittier via Portage Glacier where we
saw a movie about glaciers. Surprise: we met our cousin Ella and her
boyfriend Sasha! Exchange: we gave them caviar prepared by Yura and a
bottle of wine, they gave us their vacuum packed cheese cake! Cool!

Ferry

In Whittier we (and our car) boarded Aurora for a 6 hour ferry thru Price
William Sound to Valdez. Very comfortable and civilized! The views are magnificent: glaciers,
islands, birds, sea otters, seals, sea lions, icebergs! Drive from Valdez
to Lake Louise took us 3 hours, but we liked The...
